Meru Networks
Its industry-leading innovations deliver pervasive, wireless service fidelity for business-critical applications to major Fortune 500 enterprises, universities, healthcare organizations and local, state and federal government agencies. Meru's award-winning Air Traffic Control technology brings the benefits of the cellular world to the wireless LAN environment, and its WLAN System is the only solution on the market that delivers predictable bandwidth and over-the-air quality of service with the reliability, scalability and security necessary to deliver converged voice and data services over a single WLAN infrastructure. Founded in 2002, Meru is based in Sunnyvale, California.
Background

Going forward, however, usage models are shifting significantly from casual data application access for a few users, to high-density usage throughout companies or university lecture halls, and deployments involving mission-critical applications that combine high-capacity data with wireless VoIP, asset tracking or even video in retail, manufacturing, and healthcare environments. These pervasive mission-critical mobility applications spurred Meru to develop its fourth generation solution utilizing networks of coordinated APs, working together in virtual cells, operating on a single-channel span that may be layered to add capacity on demand. Meru's solution was recognized by Gartner, which ranked the company as the most visionary infrastructure provider in its 2006 WLAN Magic Quadrant report. Any CIO considering an initial WLAN deployment, or an expansion of an existing one—even if initially for casual data usage—must look closely at their plans for mobile applications and user density, and match those requirements to the system in which they invest today.
Assured mobile application delivery requires a network infrastructure built on the following principles:
- Scalability
- Performance and reliability
- Security
- Management and deployment
- Solution assurance
Meru Controllers
Meru’s Controller family of products is designed to meet the scale and performance needs of small to large enterprises. All Meru Controllers include a common software foundation, System Director™, offering a set of standards-based and extensible services for ease of RF deployment, comprehensive security, over the air quality of service (QoS) with zero-loss handoff mobility for converged data, voice, and video networks using unique Air Traffic Control™ technology. Meru Controllers support 1+1 and N+1 redundancy, with fail over for high availability deployment. Meru Mobile SCALE solution, deployed as a wireless overlay network, leverages existing Layer 2/3 infrastructure of an enterprise and provides assured application delivery services to all 802.11 standards-based wireless client devices.
Key Benefits:
- Simple deployment with automatic discovery and configuration of APs without the need for channel planning or complex site surveys
- Easy to deploy and manage with centralized configuration and management
- Air Traffic Control technology eliminates the need for complex channel planning and delivers intelligence contention management while significantly reducing co-channel interference problems
- Scalable solution with platforms for large enterprises or branch offices
- Integrates easily with existing infrastructure and provides intelligent application aware call admission control and load balancing. Toll quality voice even in dense client environments with upstream and downstream QoS
- Multi-layered security including WPA, WPA2, 802.1x, automatic rogue access point detection, and mitigation without degradation of client performance
- Supports location based per user and group access policies to comply with and enforce corporate security requirements

Access Points
Benefits in Brief:
- Single and Dual 802.11 a/b/g/n access points with the new AP300 family.
- Dual 802.11b/g and 802.11a software programmable radios
- Simultaneously support 802.11b, 802.11g , 802.11a and 802.11n clients devices
- Dramatically improve 802.11g performance in mixed 802.11b/g environments using the Meru Air Traffic Control™ technology.
- Channel Planning is a thing of the past, layer channels on top of each other to gain more capacity while lowering operations costs
- True Plug and play deployment, plug in the POE power to the AP, and the AP self configures; no planning or staging needed. Also, fill coverage holes in the wireless network by just plugging in the AP.
- More wireless coverage possible with fewer Access Points.
- Access points capable of wireless backhaul connectivity for Mesh.
